Anita Ekberg

Marianne (Swedish pronunciation (listen) 29/09/1931 - 11/01/2015) was an
Swedish actress well-known for her beauty and stunning figure. She became
prominent in her character as Sylvia in the Federico Fellini film La Dolce Vita
(1960). Ekberg was a major part of Italy, where she became a permanent resident
in 1964.Anita Ekberg was born on 29 September 1931 in (Sweden) she was the
eighth child in a family of eight. Anita was a fashion model in her teens.
Ekberg, at the urging of her mother, in 1950 began to enter Miss Malmo. This
led to her being selected for the Miss Sweden contest which she took home.
Although she was not fluent in English the contestant traveled to the United
States to compete to be awarded the Miss Universe title for 1951. While it was
an informal contest, the official pageant became official in 1952. Ekberg did
not win the title of Miss Universe winner, but she was among six contestants.
She did however earn a contract with Universal Studios as a starlet. Ekberg was
an Universal Starlet, where she was taught drama, elocution and dancing. The
film she appeared in was The Mississippi Gambler (1953), Abbott and Costello
(as a woman in Venus), Take Me to Town (1853), and The Golden Blade (1953).
